Derrick currently serves as a Senior Cloud Security Engineer at McAfee supporting government, healthcare and education (GHE) accounts across the United States. In this capacity, he works directly with GHE IT professionals to assess their cloud security posture based on current and projected uses, identify necessary controls, as well as design and implement cloud solutions
that maximize the benefits of Software, Platform, and Infrastructure as a Service.

Prior to joining McAfee in 2018, Derrick served as the Director of Infrastructure Technology Services for the Texas Health and Human Services Commission – the state’s largest agency. His division had service delivery ownership of networking, network security, MS Active Directory, server and storage administration, and email services supporting over 50,000 users at 850 sites
throughout Texas. In this role, he oversaw the transformation of the HHSC network that included the implementation of an entirely new fully redundant high bandwidth backbone, new MPLS WAN, voice over IP network, and new network perimeter security stack (including highly available firewalls, IPS, and advanced persistent threat detection and remediation). He was awarded the 2016 Public CIO Magazine IT Manager Award. He is also a Certified Texas Contract
Manager and served as a voting member of the HHSC’s ITIL Change Advisory Board (CAB).

Derrick also served the Commonwealth of Kentucky from 1998 – 2014 in various network engineering positions, and most recently as the Assistant Director for the Division of Communications Services within the Commonwealth Office of Technology (COT); which is the Commonwealth of Kentucky’s central information technology governance and service delivery agency. His division provided voice, video, and data communications network services, as well
as network security services, for every Executive Branch office in the Commonwealth. In that position, he provided strategic and fiduciary leadership for his Division, as well as transformational technological leadership by implementing the Commonwealth’s first ever business continuity program to ensure the availability of critical systems in spite of a catastrophic event. Derrick also served as the Commonwealth’s ITIL Problem Manager, where he led a cross disciplinary team of subject matter experts in the root cause analysis and resolution of complex technology problems.

Derrick also represented the Commonwealth in national leadership after being elected by his peers from other state governments to serve as the Vice President and President of the Southern Region of the National Association of State Technology Directors in 2011 and 2012, respectively.

Derrick and his wife, Christy, have been married for 26 years, and currently reside in Austin,Texas. They have two adult daughters: Kendall (25) and Alexis (23).
