Chris Miller is the Deputy Chief Data Officer and brings 30 years of experience working on Information Technology projects and data initiatives. In his role at DIR, Chris is currently working to support the agency on projects and initiatives centered around data optimization, data management and governance, and data sharing. One of his pursuits is to help the agency improve its ability to leverage data to make data-driven decisions.

Chris’ previous roles have included working at the Railroad Commission of Texas on IT Transformation projects with a focus on Data Warehouse/Business Intelligence. Prior to that he worked in the Office of Performance at HHSC to lead the development of an agency-wide performance management system. He also has worked on the modernization and implementation of several large disease registries at DSHS. Chris’ State of Texas IT career began at the Texas Dept. of Agriculture – where he worked to improve business processes, applications, and reporting systems used by the consumer protection division.

Chris is a native Austinite and an Aggie. Chris earned an M.B.A. from St. Edward’s University and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
