DIR recently performed a network migration away from the legacy Data Center Network (DCN), that connected the State’s two data centers to the public clouds, to DIR’s new Hybrid Cloud Connectivity (HCC) network.  The migration involved multiple service component providers within the Shared Technology Services (STS) program.  We’ll describe what the project was, challenges faced, lessons learned, and how it was project managed.

Due to the pending expiration of the contract agreement with the previous Data Center Network (DCN) provider, DIR needed to seek an alternative solution since a contract extension would not be possible.  After exploring and weighing all options, DIR decided to extend its own network and connect directly to the public clouds forming the new HCC network.  This included ordering circuits from vendors and self-managing the migration effort.  Some of the challenges and highlights of the project will be discussed.
